Monoi Oil

Monoi oil, a luxurious and aromatic oil, has a rich history deeply rooted in Polynesian culture. Its origins trace back over 2,000 years to the islands of Tahiti.  Monoi, meaning “scented oil” in the Tahitian language, is created by soaking the petals of the tiare flower, also known as Tahitian gardenia, in refined coconut oil.

The process of making monoi oil is an age-old tradition passed down through generations. It begins with the collection of freshly picked tiare flowers, which are carefully harvested at dawn when their fragrance is most potent. These petals are then macerated in coconut oil, which is derived from sun-dried coconuts, for a period of at least 15 days. This allows the natural essence of the flowers to infuse into the oil, resulting in a fragrant and luxurious product.

The spread of monoi oil beyond Polynesia began with European explorers and traders who were captivated by its unique fragrance and hydrating qualities. Today, monoi oil is celebrated worldwide as a premium beauty product, valued for its natural ingredients and time-honored craftsmanship. Its popularity continues to grow as more people seek authentic, natural skincare solutions inspired by ancient traditions.
